Being a part of the boys or girls high school golf team creates a sense of teamwork, teaches leadership and sportsmanship. High School golf begins when school starts in August and ends in October. District and Regional tournaments have been attended by both the boys and girls teams every year. The state championship was won by the boys’ team in 2002 & 2003 and the girls’ team in 1999.’ Students are chosen based on their individual scores and their desire to be on the team. We are looking for our next state championship!
Golf Tournaments:
The tours Saddlebrook Prep students participate in are: The Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT) and the International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT). Both of these tours attract excellent competitors and are played on some of the best golf courses in the state of Florida.
Program Highlights:
The Saddlebrook System is a high performance golf program that gives students the opportunity to develop their total game including: technique, golf course management, competition, physical fitness, and mental conditioning.
Weekly Theme - Students focus each week on a specific theme which can include swing development using video analysis and swing drills. Students are grouped based on ability and work on drills that will make their swings more fundamentally sound and improve their ball striking and development of all phases of the short game focusing on the central theme for the week.
Training - Arnold Palmer’s philosophy is based on the fundamen-tals of golf that each coach emphasizes daily. Students learn how to practice to improve their entire game, work on their weaknesses and develop a plan they can take to the course. Coaches play with their group on a regular basis to work on course strategy and students have monthly seminars with our Sports Psychologist to sharpen their mental skills.
coaches - Students work with the same coaches every day during each quarter. Their coaches are able to track student progress and focus on improving all aspects of their game with consistency.
Player accountability - Students have a great opportunity to take their game to the next level but it will be up to them to reach their potential. Starting with their performance profile students must be constantly setting goals for themselves and focusing on achieving those goals. Additional tools such as tournament evaluations and mental skills training will help players become tougher competitors.
Player Analysis - Players at Saddlebrook Prep have the opportuni-ty to compete on a daily basis with their peers. Playing golf among players of a similar age and ability level on a regular basis pushes them towards constant and consistent improvement. Our goal is for players to gain as much experience competing as possible so they have the ability to perform at the highest level, leaving behind obstacles that have held them back in the past. It is an important part of our mental conditioning program that coaches, and more importantly players, are able to evaluate their performance. Skills testing will be completed on a regular basis and will allow coaches and players to concretely identify strengths and weaknesses and set measurable goals towards improvement. |
