FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know that I will be placed in a group appropriate with my skill level?
All guests are asked their ability level upon making their reservation. We ask for information such as a USTA rating (3.5, 4.0 etc. if applicable), playing history and/or years of private instruction in order to try and match guests with players of a similar ability level. Once you arrive and are placed on court with an instructor (4:1 Player - Instructor Ratio) our Adult Program Coordinator checks in with each court to make sure that the ability levels are matched as closely as possible. At this time adjustments will be made if necessary to find the best fit for each guest.

If you have questions or concerns about your court assignment please make sure to talk to the Coordinator so that we can ensure your tennis experience is a memorable one!

When are clinics offered and do I have to start on a certain day of the week?
Our clinics are offered 365 days a year! They start each day at 8:00am and run until 3:00pm with a break from 11:00am until 12:50pm for lunch. Guests have the option to play as many days as they like starting any day of the week.

Can I change my tennis once I arrive?
We strongly encourage guests to plan their tennis schedule in advance of arrival. Tennis room rates are only available to those guests who have at least one participant in the tennis program each day. Requests to add additional players upon arrival may not be able to be accommodated due to our need to coordinate and schedule the program in advance. While we try to accommodate all guests, at times, especially during peak seasons this is not possible.
A guest who requests to change or cancel a tennis session will be subject to a $50 per person charge.

What should I pack for tennis?
Proper tennis attire and footwear are required. Make sure to bring a comfortable broken-in pair of tennis shoes. Sunscreen and a hat or visor are a must! There is a drinking fountain on each court and water and Gatorade is delivered once throughout each session but we suggest bringing your own personal water bottle in addition to ensure that you stay hydrated. We also recommend more than one racquet in case you break a string. We provide stringing services in our pro shop as well as a full line of Prince racquets that are available to demo.

What happens if it rains?
Occasionally we will have a rain shower that will interrupt a session. The majority of the time we are able to make up any time missed time during the next session. A thunder shower can come and go in a matter of 20 minutes so we usually take a short break and get back out on the court! If more than a half day is rained out a "Rain Check" will be issued through the tennis office that can be redeemed for additional tennis on your next visit. A "Rain Check" can be redeemed for tennis only and cannot be used towards accommodations or at any of the other Saddlebrook outlets.

What is there to do after tennis?
There are many tennis-related activities available during your stay such as; players 'Meet and Greet', serving contest, singles matching, round robin, and 'Beat the Pro'. Please make sure to talk to the Adult Program Coordinator upon your arrival about any activities you might be interested in participating in. In addition, take advantage of our European-style Spa, great restaurants, and world-class golf courses.

Can I get a private lesson?
Private lessons are scheduled either during lunch or after the afternoon session. Arrangements for lessons can be made through the Tennis Office. If you would like to request a specific pro we will do our best to accommodate you.

What options are there for my children?
Saddlebrook is a great place for a family vacation. If the kids play tennis then you can enroll them in our junior camp program where they can play as much or as little as they like. We also have a great golf program that can accommodate players of all ages and ability levels. S'Kids Club, our child-care program is also another fun option for the kids. We strongly recommend calling in advance to schedule any of these activities.

Do I need a car?
Saddlebrook has a private transportation company which is available upon request to pick you up from the airport. Please make sure to ask your reservationist to connect you with a transportation representative so you can schedule your pickup advance. Should you like to explore the Tampa Bay area we suggest renting a car. The resort has valet parking available for $15 per day.
